College of Liberal Arts
Have you wondered how you could contribute to the College of Liberal Arts? Support for student research is essential to the college’s mission of academic excellence.
Senior student Laura Smetana’s research, under the mentorship of Professor Lawrence Reardon, is just one of the many partnerships between students and faculty that occur in the College of Liberal Arts every semester. Faculty-mentored, independent study teaches students the habits of effective inquiry and often pushes them further than they thought they could go, both intellectually and geographically. Our students take their research around the globe or right down the street—whether they study in Slovakia, like Laura, travel to Ireland to research traditional Irish music, or study local trends in train usage.
Student research is just one aspect of the vitality of the college, and just one way your support helps us to further our mission. As I write this, our faculty members are at work on dozens of books, scores of articles, art exhibitions, theatrical productions, and musical performances; and they are contributing to programs that connect the University with the community, the region, and the world. At the same time, our talented, hard-working liberal arts students are discovering their academic passions, making connections between their coursework and their everyday lives, planning for study abroad or exchange experiences, and pursuing internships.
To support the work of this vibrant community, the college depends upon generous alumni, patrons, and friends like you. Your contribution today will allow the work not only to continue, but truly to flourish. Please give as generously as you can.
On behalf of the students and faculty of the College of Liberal Arts, I extend a heartfelt thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Hoskin, Dean
