Governor’s Success Scholarship Program
Each year, half of New Hampshire’s high school seniors leave the state to attend college, and I was almost one of them. As a senior, I believed I would have to go to college in Washington, D.C., to pursue my passion for politics. I didn’t realize that the University of New Hampshire boasts a first-rate academic reputation, or that it offers amazing opportunities for student engagement in and out of the classroom. But I was incredibly fortunate to receive a Governor’s Success Scholarship back then, and I chose to attend UNH. I have never looked back.
Since 1987, The Governor’s Success Scholarship Fund has offered full academic scholarships to New Hampshire’s most promising high school seniors. Hundreds of students have been awarded a total of nearly $1.5 million since its creation, helping them—and me—to realize the dream of earning a college degree at home in New Hampshire. Importantly, the scholarship is supported by annual gifts made to this fund. Equally significant, the state matches dollar-for-dollar all gifts directed to this purpose, doubling the value of each gift and doubling the impact for deserving New Hampshire students.
Today, I am a proud UNH graduate and an active member of my community. I received an incredible education in political science and history. I learned from great professors like Jeff Bolster and Greg McMahon, and the late Bob Craig and Tom Trout. Having the opportunity to serve as UNH student body president gave me the foundation I needed to serve my community in my profession as a banker, and as a selectman in my hometown of Exeter.
The Governor’s Success Scholarship was an investment UNH made in me, and I believe that I have made that investment pay off. Now it is time for me to invest in others in return. I invite you to join me in making a gift to the Governor’s Success Scholarship Fund to ensure that future New Hampshire students of promise enjoy these same opportunities for success.
Sincerely,
Joseph Pace ’97
