Wildcat Athletics Council

University of New Hampshire Athletics is a close-knit family—a true team that works together to ensure success both on and off the field. But it is the individual effort of each team-player that determines how well our team works together, progresses toward our goals and accomplishes our objectives.

You are as essential to the success of our teams as any player on the field. Your enthusiasm inspires our will to win. Your encouragement instills confidence in our student-athletes. And during these challenging economic times, your support will assist us in not only keeping our critically important programs alive, but also in advancing our programs to the next level of athletic excellence.

UNH Athletics is proud to report on just some of the many successes from our 2008-2009 season:
• Football advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years and made its fifth straight appearance at the NCAA Football Subdivision Championships. The team also beat a 1-A opponent for the fourth time in a row.
• The women's gymnastics team advanced to the NCAA Regionals at Alabama. UNH, under 30th year head coach Gail Goodspeed, has advanced 27 of 28 times.
• The men's ice hockey team hosted the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and advanced to the NCAAs for the eighth straight year.
• Men's cross country won the America East Championship title for the third straight time and it was the eighth title in 11 years.
• The women's ice hockey team won the Hockey East Tournament title for the fourth straight year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
• The UNH Ski Team had eight All-America performances in 2009 and placed ninth overall in the NCAA Championships.
• The men's basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the America East Tournament and narrowly missed winning and hosting the championship game in our very own Lundholm Gymnasium.

Support from alumni like you helps to turn successes like those above from lofty goals into celebratory realities. Your gift to UNH Athletics directly impacts our ability to recruit, retain and develop outstanding student-athletes, and ensures that our teams are able to compete at the highest level in their division, despite having fewer resources than most of our competitors.

These are challenging economic times and I understand it may not be as easy to be generous. But in true Wildcat spirit, we must not let this challenge deter us. Like every individual goal on and off the field, our support can be increased with each individual gift.

Please consider a gift to the Wildcat Athletics Council (WAC) in support of student scholarships. Your contribution will have a direct impact on the young men and women who balance the rigors of academics and athletics, and excel at both. You may also give to the Athletic Director’s Excellence Fund, which is utilized for initiatives that significantly impact the most student-athletes, such as the recent weight room expansion. Lastly, you may also give to the UNH Athletic team of your choice.

We’d like to thank you for your past support, and hope you will continue to be a part of our team and our success.

Go ’Cats,
Marty Scarano
