The Whittemore School of Business and Economics

I am pleased to write to you from the Whittemore School (WSBE), and delighted to update you on our recent progress.

We have been working on a number of initiatives to improve the school’s programs and build its footprint in the region. Chief among these activities is the development of a strategic plan which includes:

• offering additional scholarships to attract the best and brightest students;
• developing chairs and professorships in order to recruit the most qualified faculty;
• providing seed capital for important research projects;
• strengthening the curriculum;
• increasing industry’s access to both faculty research and development and student talent;
• supplementing funding for student clubs which complement classroom learning;
• advancing the school’s reputation; and
• improving our facilities.

The school has outgrown McConnell Hall, in terms of classroom and office space, and more importantly, with regard to program delivery. As a result, we have begun to plan for a new building and have engaged a team of architects to design a state-of-the art facility conducive to the latest teaching methodologies. This will involve a significant fund raising effort as well.

WSBE is also developing new connections with alumni and businesses, and redeveloping its communications strategy to build a stronger presence in the lives of our alumni. We are also working to make the school’s strengths and achievements more visible and available to businesses in the region.

In addition, a new committee is currently assessing student learning to ensure that our students graduate with the right tools and competencies to be effective leaders.

We celebrate our students. And we are grateful for your support, which helps make it possible for us to provide a world-class education for future business leaders, and to be successful in our goals of making a difference in the state and the region. Please give generously this year.

All best regards,
Daniel Innis, Ph.D.
Dean, Whittemore School of Business and Economics
