Charitable Gift Annuity
A Charitable Gift Annuity is a popular form of giving for its simplicity and its contractual guarantee. The Charitable Gift Annuity ensures a fixed annual income for the life of the donor in return for an irrevocable gift to the University Foundation. The minimum amount required to establish a gift annuity is $10,000. The percentage of annual income to the donor and/or annuitant is determined by the donor’s age and is in compliance with the rates published by the American Council on Gift Annuities.
Some states have strict policies and procedures governing Charitable Gift Annuities. Please contact the UNH Foundation’s Office of Planned Giving for further information.
A charitable gift annuity assures fixed income
Example:
In honor of her 50th reunion, Ms. Smith contributes $50,000 in cash to fund a charitable gift annuity. Now 72 years of age, she receives fixed annual payments of 6.7 percent, or $3,350 per year, for her lifetime. In addition, she receives a charitable tax deduction in the year of her gift, and a portion of the annuity payment will be tax free for a number of years.
